READING PLANS
You are much more likely to consistently read the Bible if you have a reading plan. Here are some great sources for plans:
To encourage all of us to read the Bible as a family, we have seasonal Bible Reading plans. Click below to see our current plan and sign up to receive emails with each day's reading. We also encourage you to join a Missional Community, where you will be able to work through this Scripture and more with others!
This blog post provides a lot of information on different reading plans, with links to several. It’s a great place to start.
This is an interactive website with a wide variety of reading plans and daily devotions on many different topics. (See the app in the APPS below!)
APPS
There are some really fantastic apps out there! Here are a few we’ve found helpful.
This incredible free app provides several translations of the Bible along with numerous reading and devotional plans. You can subscribe to a plan and the app will automatically take you to the right places in Scripture, keep track of what you’ve read, and more. You can also “friend” people you know, share notes, encouragement, etc.
A wonderful app to organize your prayers. You can enter different categories of prayer and have the app walk you through them in chunks as big or small as you like. If you’ve been looking for an app to help you remember what to pray for, this will do the job. You can also subscribe to online prayers/topics through the app. All for free.
BOOKS & VIDEOS
There are countless books and videos out there to help you read and benefit from the Bible. Here are some of the most helpful.
A classic and very readable book to help you understand the basics of interpreting the Bible. It is written for people with no background in studying the Bible to help you learn about the different types of books in the Bible, get the lay of the land, and learn how to begin properly interpreting what you read. How to Read the Bible Book by Book (by the same authors) is a good followup read that takes you through the entire Bible.
This book will take you through a great reading plan over the course of a year, and provide great insight on the Scripture you read each day. This is one of Pastor Ryan’s favorites, and he goes through it year after year. (The YouVersion Bible app listed above has this book within it, if you subscribe to the reading plan.)
