Lay Counseling Ministry

Resonate’s Lay Counseling Ministry provides accessible, high-quality mental health support at no cost, both in person and virtually. Through a gospel-centered and evidence-based approach, trained lay counselors walk alongside individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and grief, helping them find healing, flourish in God’s grace, and grow in their identity in Christ. When lay counseling is not sufficient, licensed therapists are available to provide consultations and referrals to trusted local professionals.

Lay counseling provides short-term, solution-focused support, typically through 6 to 8 sessions. We walk alongside individuals experiencing mild to moderate:

• Anxiety and stress

• Depression or feeling stuck

• Grief and loss

Before being matched with a counselor, each person participates in a brief 20-minute screening to determine whether lay counseling is the safest and most effective option for their needs. If a higher level of care is recommended, our licensed oversight team can provide consultations and referrals to trusted local professionals.

When facing emotional distress, you deserve care that is spiritually grounded and clinically informed. Although our counselors are lay counselors, they are equipped through extensive training and ongoing professional oversight:

• Nine months of rigorous training: Every discipler-counselor completes an intensive curriculum covering evidence-based methods, active listening, and gospel-centered care.

• Ongoing licensed supervision: Counselors receive weekly oversight and guidance from licensed mental health professionals to help ensure safe, ethical, and high-quality care.

• Evidence-based and gospel-grounded: We combine solution-focused practices, such as behavioral activation, with biblical truth to help individuals heal, flourish, and grow in their identity in Christ.
