CORE VALUES
We believe God is our greatest reward. And when we have him, we have everything (Hebrews 11:6). Through Prime, we continually seek God’s presence and to be in His presence. He is omnipresent, near everything and everyone. He is always present with His commitment to us (Matthew 28:20). So because of God’s continual pursuit of us, we respond by being humbly broken (not prideful) and bold to continuously and consciously fight against pride, obstacles, and cultural norms that place other valuable things in our minds and hearts above God.
We hold God and the gospel as not only our “true north” but also our motivation to fuel Prime. We seek Christ through His revealing through the Bible, evidence of grace in other people, and more. As Prime, we strive to make disciples who make disciples to ultimately follow Jesus, which is rooted in seeking and loving Him first.
In Prime we have a deep desire for young adults to come as they are with full authenticity. Authenticity begins with our identity as imitators of Christ (1 Corinthians 15: 49). This is a practical manifestation of God's work of salvation through us. It's not primarily about modifying our behaviors or managing our sins, but the work of the Holy Spirit.
We reject the pressure to define ourselves through jobs, financial status, accomplishments, appearances and other means by which the world defines us. The foundation that we strive to ground our identity in is God's unconditional love for us. This changes how we view ourselves, others, and what we live out from.
Our sins lead us to hide our true selves from others out of fear of being fully known. (Genesis 3:7-8). However, with the gospel we are a new creation who no longer live for ourselves but by faith in Christ (Galatians 2:20). Therefore, we are called to put off all falsehoods (Ephesians 4:25) and to step out from the masks and false images we hide behind. It is through this vulnerability we become a body that truly suffers and rejoices together (1 Corinthians 12:25-27).
We constantly strive for growth in both our knowledge of God’s whole Truth and our application of living out that Truth by grace, with Christlikeness being the goal. The growth mindset we possess in Prime is that no one here has “arrived” (Philippians 3:12) - we are always students, and there is always something we can learn from everyone around us. Any knowledge we may possess is not attained outside God’s sovereign grace in revealing that knowledge to us (1 Corinthians 2:10). We invite you to come as you are, at the same time we all have room to grow in both grace and knowledge (2 Peter 3:18). We aim for growth in our understanding and application of God’s grace, individually and communally.
Applying God’s grace involves genuine inner life change. Spiritual growth is not solely caused by ministry-driven programs. We simply plant and water through our programs (1 Corinthians 3:7), but it is ultimately by God who causes growth. Therefore we don't measure our growth by the world's standards and numbers.
Real change and real growth is not a one-and-done thing. It’s a repeated turning towards Christ, continually submitting to him and receiving his grace.
As Prime, we believe that community is never found, but built. Our desire is not to provide a community for young adults that fits their preferences, but we build a community of God according to His plan first. We believe that we’re designed in the image of God, who embodies community as seen in the Trinity, and invites us into His family. The Bible also speaks a great deal about our need for others, but it speaks even more about our need for God. So we place God as our cornerstone (Ephesians 2:19-20) and master builder (1 Corinthians 3:5-9) of our young adult community.
Therefore, community is a tangible way that God has made us feel known and loved by Him first. In the same way Christ pursues us, we actively pursue others and we extend ourselves to be other-focused. We’re willing and strive to embrace the reality of community - mess and all.
Taking Ground for the Gospel
The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) is not merely to go to the ends of the earth to preach the gospel, baptize, nor to teach - but to “make disciples”. We desire to build people who are so focused on the Great Commission that they not only follow Jesus but lead others to Him as well. We believe it’s critical and necessary because of the instruction, power, and authority granted to us by Jesus (Matthew 10:40)
Therefore, sharing the gospel is not optional for followers of Jesus. It’s the heartbeat of all that we are called to be and do. With this in clear focus, everything that is done and said has fulfillment for God’s redemptive purpose -- not only for the Bay Area but for the world.
We believe evangelism is not done by something (like a program or activity), but done by someone. We believe God intends to use men and women who are willing to be nothing so that God might be everything (Luke 10:2). We strive to continuously apply tangible ways to share the Gospel. We follow Jesus first - as such, we strive to lead as witnesses to equip others to follow Christ, make disciples, and to advance God’s kingdom by sharing the good news.
