In Acts 16, Paul and Silas after being stipped, beaten, and imprisoned by the hands of evil men started to sing hymns to God at midnight. Why? Because they needed a display of God's power. They had learned, singing to God is not merely a response to His grace but also a means of grace. That means when we sing, the Holy Spirit engages us and sometimes causes a miracle, even an earthquake! (v. 26) The lesson? When we sing, the power of God is unleashed. As Martin Luther said, "Music drives away the Devil and makes people sense his blessing...Next after theology I give music the highest praise and the greatest honor."
