CURRENT SERMON SERIES:

The gods We Trust

Many assume the Bay Area is becoming less religious, but the truth is we have not stopped worshipping; we have simply changed what we worship. In a culture shaped by innovation, prosperity, comfort, and the pursuit of happiness, we often look to technology, success, and self-determination to give us meaning, identity, and security. These things promise freedom and fulfillment, but when they take God’s place in our hearts, they become counterfeit gods that cannot ultimately satisfy us. The Bible teaches that every human heart is wired for worship, and whatever we trust most will shape the way we live. In this series, we will expose the idols of our culture and see how the living God confronts them through Jesus Christ, offering a deeper freedom, a truer identity, and a hope that no achievement or prosperity could ever provide.

This sermon teaches that while we may feel enslaved by our past and old habits, Christ has already set us free from the mastery of sin. It encourages believers to live out of their new identity, rejecting shame and boldly declaring that Christ's resurrection has granted them the power to live in freedom.

Using literary and biblical examples like Cain and Abel, this sermon illustrates how rivalry is rooted in envy and leads to destruction. It concludes by encouraging believers to overcome rivalry and foster love by embracing God's sovereignty over their lives, just as Joseph did.
